Part-Time Employee Relations Specialist (Central Office)

About the role

Under general supervision, the HR Specialist supports the Employee Relations function for the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Central Office in Decatur, GA. The role provides consistent, timely, policy‑aligned guidance to employees, supervisors and managers, conducts impartial fact‑finding reviews and helps resolve complaints while ensuring compliance with state and federal employment regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Review employee complaints and workplace concerns, assess jurisdiction, urgency and conflicts of interest, and determine appropriate response.
• Coordinate the Faithful Service Awards program, ensuring proper signing and distribution.
• Draft and review professional correspondence, case summaries, memoranda, notices and other employee‑relations documents.
• Create, organize, secure and retain employee‑relations files in line with confidentiality and records‑retention policies.
• Enter and maintain accurate case information in the employee‑relations tracking system, monitor deadlines and generate reports as needed.
• Support drug and alcohol testing processes, including scheduling and documentation.
• Facilitate performance‑management workflow in the HRIS, assisting supervisors and employees to complete evaluations on time.
• Maintain records of employee arrest disclosures, follow up with employees and leadership, and ensure actions comply with agency policy.

Required profile

• Under general supervision, able to provide policy‑aligned guidance.
• Knowledge of DJJ policies, State Personnel Board rules and federal/state employment requirements.
• Ability to conduct impartial fact‑finding and maintain accurate case records.
• Collaboration skills to work with the Office of Legal Services and external stakeholders.
