Member of Technical Staff – Research Software Engineer

About the role

As a Member of Technical Staff – Research Software Engineer you will design and optimise the core training infrastructure that powers cutting‑edge AI models. You will work closely with researchers to turn novel algorithms into scalable, production‑grade systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise large‑scale training loops, reinforcement‑learning pipelines and data processing systems.
• Implement state‑of‑the‑art techniques ensuring numerical stability and computational efficiency.
• Build internal tooling for launching, monitoring and reproducing complex experiments.
• Diagnose bottlenecks across the training stack, including GPU memory, communication overhead and dataloader stalls.
• Translate research prototypes into reusable, production‑grade infrastructure.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with experience in machine‑learning systems.
• Deep expertise in at least one area: distributed training & inference or large‑scale data infrastructure.
• Passion for performance, numerical stability and reproducibility.
• Ability to thrive in high‑agency environments and solve hard technical problems.

Required skills

• Distributed training frameworks (FSDP, ZeRO, model sharding, Megatron‑style stacks).
• GPU parallelism (data, tensor, pipeline, expert).
• Communication optimisation (NCCL, RDMA, GPU interconnects).
• Orchestration/runtime systems (Ray, Kubernetes, Slurm).
• Containerisation and sandboxing.
• Frameworks: PyTorch, JAX.
• Custom kernels (Triton).
• Large‑scale data pipelines, dataset curation, tokenisation and preprocessing.
