Entry Level Machinist – Blacksburg, VA

About the role

Moog is seeking an entry‑level Machinist to join its production team in Blacksburg, VA. You will work in a collaborative environment, performing a variety of machining operations while learning from experienced mentors.

Key responsibilities

• Operate drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and grinding equipment.
• Handle turning/plunge and form tools, shear vise, and tapping machines (manual and power).
• Use power hand tools, belt and disc sanders, sand/blast equipment, band saws and cut‑off saws.
• Select appropriate speeds, feeds, and blade specifications for cutting operations.
• Maintain machine shop gauges and ensure tool care.
• Complete required paperwork and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (preferred) and ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• At least one year of completion of an approved Machine Technology program or equivalent vocational training.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Graduates of ATDM (Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing) are encouraged to apply.

Required skills

• Proficiency with drill press, lathe, milling and grinding machines.
• Experience using shear vise, tapping machines, power hand tools, sanders, blasters, band saws and cut‑off saws.
• Knowledge of machine shop gauges and tool selection.
• General mathematics competence.
