Design Engineer

About the role

As a Design Engineer in the Power & Data division, you will work onsite in Blacksburg, VA, reporting to the Site Engineering Manager and contributing to custom electro‑mechanical devices for aerospace and military applications.

Key responsibilities

• Review customer specifications and develop design approaches to meet requirements.
• Support the business development group with technical proposals.
• Optimize designs using Speed or Ansys FEA tools and collaborate to create solid models and detailed prints.
• Conduct internal and external design reviews and support prototype building and qualification testing.
• Prepare drawing packages for final production release and address technical questions from customers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
• At least 3 years of design experience, preferably with electro‑mechanical devices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage tasks through development, prototype, and production phases.
• Analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Ansys (FEA) tools.
• Experience using Speed (FEA) tools.
• Solid modeling and creation of detailed prints.
