Engineer‑In‑Training – Roadway & Site Development

About the role

Horrocks is seeking a motivated Engineer‑In‑Training to support roadway and site development projects. You will work under licensed Professional Engineers, gaining hands‑on experience in design, permitting, and construction support while developing your technical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare roadway design plans, profiles, and cross‑sections using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Assist with grading, drainage, utilities, water, and sewer system designs.
• Develop calculations, quantities, and supporting exhibits for design development.
• Draft technical memoranda, design plans, specifications, and reports.
• Support permitting processes and coordinate with agencies across jurisdictions.
• Contribute to cost and quantity take‑offs at various project stages.
• Perform quality‑control checks on plans and documents under supervision.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and attend client and internal meetings.
• Provide construction support, respond to RFIs, and assist with site observation tasks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
• 2–4 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in roadway or transportation design.
• Familiarity with municipal or state transportation projects and agency design standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and detail‑oriented work habits.

Required skills

• AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Bluebeam (preferred).
• Microsoft Office suite.
