About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Data Entry Clerk to support the finance team of a university in Hampton, Virginia. This long‑term contract position focuses on accurately entering financial journal information to keep records organized for year‑end close activities.

Key responsibilities

• Enter finance‑related journal data into designated systems with high accuracy.
• Review source documents to ensure correct data capture and alignment with entry guidelines.
• Assist in year‑end close preparation by maintaining complete and up‑to‑date financial records.
• Process large volumes of numeric and text‑based information while meeting productivity and quality standards.
• Identify discrepancies or missing information and escalate to the appropriate team members.
• Maintain confidentiality of university financial data.
• Utilize computer‑based data entry tools to meet required timelines.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience in data entry or a closely related administrative role.
• Strong accuracy and attention to detail, especially with numeric information.
• Ability to follow instructions precisely and enter information exactly as provided.
• Comfortable handling repetitive tasks while maintaining quality.
• Effective organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Good communication skills and collaborative attitude within a finance or administrative team.
