Data Entry Clerk – Finance Team

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Data Entry Clerk to support the finance team of a university in Hampton, Virginia. This long‑term contract position focuses on entering high volumes of financial data accurately to aid year‑end close activities and improve record accuracy.

Key responsibilities

• Enter journal entry information into designated systems with speed and precision.
• Process large volumes of financial data tied to year‑end close preparation.
• Review entries for completeness and flag discrepancies before recording.
• Maintain organized documentation and ensure data is recorded in the proper format.
• Verify numeric information carefully to reduce errors and protect data integrity.
• Follow established procedures for data handling, record updates, and file maintenance.
• Communicate with team members regarding missing information, corrections, or clarification needs.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of experience in data entry or a related administrative support role.
• Strong typing skills with the ability to enter data efficiently and accurately.
• Experience working with numeric data and maintaining precise financial records.
• High attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies in large data sets.
• Ability to manage repetitive tasks while maintaining quality and productivity.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a structured work environment.
