Civil Project Engineer – Municipal Design

About the role

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join its Municipal Services team in Columbus, Ohio. You will work alongside licensed engineers to design and deliver water, wastewater, roadway, stormwater, and recreational infrastructure for municipalities across the Midwest.

Key responsibilities

• Assist licensed engineers with design and preparation of municipal infrastructure projects, including water/wastewater, roadways, and community facilities.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical designs, and construction documents.
• Develop feasibility studies, due‑diligence reports, zoning studies, and front‑end planning documents.
• Perform stormwater modeling and hydraulic/hydrologic analyses and produce technical reports.
• Prepare cost estimates and detailed design plans for municipal and development projects.
• Coordinate with internal MSG teams (Survey, Geotechnical, Structural, Traffic, Transportation, Construction Services).
• Engage with local municipalities and reviewing agencies to address comments and guide projects through approval.
• Support project development from concept through final design and construction documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• EIT (EI) certification in Ohio required; PE preferred.
• 2+ years of relevant municipal or site‑development experience.
• Practical experience in design and plan preparation for municipal projects.
• Knowledge of industry design standards (City of Columbus, ODOT, etc.).

Required skills

• AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation (grading experience required).
• Hydraulic/hydrologic analysis and stormwater modeling.
• Roadway design and survey experience.
• Cost estimating and technical writing.
