Civil Engineer – Municipal & Private Development Projects

About the role

Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer IV to lead the design and delivery of municipal infrastructure and private development projects across Southeast Michigan. The role offers the chance to work in a collaborative, open‑plan office and to shape the future of the firm’s civil practice.

Key responsibilities

• Develop civil engineering plans and designs using Autodesk Civil 3D, including site layout, grading, roadway alignments, and earthwork modeling.
• Design water main, utility layouts, storm and sanitary sewer systems, and stormwater management facilities.
• Prepare construction drawings, technical specifications, calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
• Manage permit applications, regulatory submittals, and bid documentation.
• Lead multidisciplinary design assignments from concept through construction, coordinating with clients, municipalities, and utility agencies.
• Mentor junior engineers, review their work, and support their technical development.
• Assist project managers with scope development, fee estimates, proposals, and construction administration.

Required profile

• 6–10 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in municipal and private development projects.
• Proven ability to lead design teams and manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Strong communication skills for client and agency coordination.
• Professional engineering licensure or eligibility is preferred.
