Senior Roadway Design Lead

About the role

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. is expanding its Transportation Team in Michigan and seeks a Senior Roadway Design Lead to drive roadway engineering and transportation infrastructure projects across the Detroit Metro area and beyond. This position is ideal for a technically strong engineer with deep expertise in OpenRoads Designer and roadway modeling.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead on MDOT and local agency roadway projects.
• Perform hands‑on roadway modeling and design using OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
• Prepare and review plans, profiles, cross‑sections, quantities, and design calculations.
• Conduct design reviews and support QA/QC on deliverables.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor junior staff on design standards and modeling workflows.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 8‑10+ years of transportation engineering experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with OpenRoads Designer.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
