Senior Trade Compliance Specialist (ITAR/EAR)

About the role

Shield AI, a defense-tech company, is hiring a Senior Trade Compliance Specialist to support its global operations and ensure adherence to U.S. export and import regulations. The role works closely with Sales, Program Management and Engineering to guide the compliant movement of U.S. State Department (ITAR) and U.S. Commerce Department (EAR)-controlled goods and technologies. It suits a proactive professional who can work independently, communicate across functions and balance compliance with business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Review, prepare, submit and manage Export/Import Authorizations (licenses such as DSP-5, DSP-85, DSP-73, DSP-61, DOC licenses; agreements such as MLAs and TAAs; exemptions and exceptions) for regulated hardware, technical data, software and services.
• Implement and manage trade compliance procedures, including visitor vetting, foreign travel and restricted party screening, under ITAR and EAR.
• Give clear, actionable guidance on compliance matters across business units.
• Maintain accurate records of all U.S. State and Commerce Department license activity and review authorizations against government requirements.
• Apply corporate trade compliance policies consistently and evaluate the use of exemptions and exceptions.
• Monitor changes to U.S. Government export authorization policies.

Required profile

• University degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with at least 2 years of experience.
• Experience with U.S. EAR and/or ITAR licensing and compliance frameworks.
• Ability to work independently and partner with stakeholders across engineering, operations and program management.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience managing export authorizations and regulatory interactions.
• Experience with trade compliance systems such as DECCS / SNAP-R licensing platforms.
• Strong knowledge of export licensing workflows, classification and jurisdiction determinations.
