About the role
3M is seeking a Senior Materials Scientist to join its global innovation network. You will work in a collaborative environment, developing new materials and processes that drive differentiated performance across 3M product lines.
Key responsibilities
- Develop new materials and manufacturing processes to meet product performance goals.
- Integrate newly developed materials into 3M product roadmaps and scale qualified candidates with chemical manufacturing teams.
- Author technical reports, patent applications, and research proposals; maintain electronic laboratory notebook records.
- Summarize experimental data using PowerPoint, Excel, or other software and present findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Collaborate with global, multi‑disciplinary teams to identify and implement solutions for customer applications.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Ceramics, or a related discipline (completed and verified prior to start).
- At least four years of laboratory experience in academic, private, public, government, or military settings, including Ph.D. research.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience authoring scientific publications and/or patents is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, global teams and to develop intellectual property portfolios.
