Human Resource Manager

About the role

J. Benton Construction – Caribbean Construction Experts is seeking a Human Resource Manager to provide HR support across St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Human Resources, the role will lead recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration and training initiatives for the company’s Virgin Islands operations.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Virgin Islands HR team and other departments on recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management and employee relations.
• Provide leadership to direct reports through coaching, mentoring and professional development.
• Develop, implement and refine HR policies to ensure legal compliance and promote a positive workplace culture.
• Oversee the full recruitment cycle, from job posting to selection, and assist with interviews as needed.
• Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions and grievance procedures.
• Advise management on HR issues, ensuring adherence to labor laws.
• Support benefits administration, including open enrollment and employee inquiries.
• Monitor and improve HR metrics such as turnover, employee satisfaction and time‑to‑hire.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field (preferred).
• 3‑5 years of experience in a managerial HR position, preferably in the construction industry.
• HR certification preferred.
• Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to travel between islands as business needs dictate.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience with, or ability to quickly learn, an HRIS system.
