Commercial Counsel, Platform & Marketplace

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Commercial Counsel to lead the legal strategy for its Platform & Marketplace initiatives, including the Claude Marketplace where enterprise customers can discover and purchase third‑party applications. The counsel will work closely with the Partnerships & Alliances team to structure and negotiate agreements that enable growth while managing risk.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute end‑to‑end legal strategy for partnership ecosystems and contracting programs.
• Act as the primary legal advisor to the Partnerships & Alliances business team, embedded in partnership planning.
• Lead complex multi‑party negotiations covering technical integrations, revenue‑sharing, joint go‑to‑market strategies and other strategic commitments.
• Design scalable partnership frameworks, templates and programs to streamline deal execution and control risk.
• Provide counsel on partnership structures that balance legal risk with aggressive growth objectives.
• Coordinate with Compute, Strategic Pursuits, Finance and GTM teams on deals where partnership terms intersect with other commercial relationships.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred).
• Proven track record of independently leading complex, multi‑stakeholder negotiations with major technology companies resulting in successful partnership launches.
• Experience serving as the go‑to legal partner for a partnerships or business development organization.
• Deep understanding of partnership economics, deal registration, revenue attribution and incentive structuring.
• Strong judgment in risk assessment and the ability to balance legal risk with growth goals.
