Managing Attorney - External Partnerships

About the role

Open Door Legal is seeking a Managing Attorney to lead its External Partnerships program. Based in San Francisco, you will coordinate pro bono partners, contract attorneys, and private firms to expand the organization’s capacity to serve low‑income clients.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, maintain, and supervise relationships with pro bono partners, contract attorneys, private law firms, and legal service organizations.
• Place referred cases with internal or external partners, ensuring timely referrals and accurate data collection for grant reporting.
• Supervise pro bono and contractor attorneys on triaged cases across multiple practice areas.
• Organize legal clinics and oversee non‑legal counselors delivering know‑your‑rights services.
• Ensure culturally sensitive service delivery and achieve positive client feedback for external placements.

Required profile

• Active membership in the California State Bar.
• Minimum four years of relevant experience, including direct supervision of staff attorneys.
• Strong knowledge of civil procedure and at least one of ODL’s practice areas.
• Willingness to work across any of ODL’s San Francisco office locations.
• Commitment to a minimum two‑year tenure with the organization.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Salesforce, Dropbox, and Google Suite.
• Excellent written, editing, and proofreading abilities.
• Strong interpersonal and diplomatic communication skills.
