Accounting Technician – VCF Payment Processing

About the role

The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) pays claims for individuals harmed or killed in the 9/11 attacks or their aftermath. Payments must be processed quickly and with 100% accuracy, using several systems and tools. Under the direction of the VCF Payment Processing Supervisor, the Payment Team Payment Processor (Accounting Technician) works in the Payment Team, following established Payment Standard Operating Procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyze financial data, documents and manual or automated payment systems.
• Create, file, retrieve and copy claim and payment documents.
• Enter basic claimant payment data into databases.
• Proofread, edit and correct payment documents.
• Complete tracking spreadsheets and report on task progress.
• Perform quality control on the work of peers.
• Perform basic and intermediate database searches and moderately complex payment support tasks, including detailed review of claimant files, compensation details and banking forms.
• File payment softcopy files and assist with payment reports.

Required profile

• Two-year degree in accounting or a four-year degree in a related field (finance, business, banking or economics) with 30 credit hours in accounting; relevant experience may substitute for the education requirement.
• Three years of experience in claim and payment support projects or an undergraduate degree.
• Experience or substantial coursework in finance/accounting or in a claim processing environment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials; US citizenship is required for this work location.

Required skills

• Knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems used by banks and financial institutions.
• Proficiency with word processing, PC-based databases and office automation networks.
• Attention to detail, accuracy under pressure and excellent typing and communication skills.
