Training Specialist – Vehicle Operator

About the role

Waabi is seeking a Training Specialist to lead onboarding and continuous learning for Vehicle Operators working with autonomous trucks. The role partners closely with the Training Manager to ensure operators are proficient, safe, and up‑to‑date on system changes.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Training Manager to design and update technical learning materials, SOPs, job aids, interactive modules, and assessments using ADDIE or SAM methodologies.
• Conduct new‑hire onboarding for Vehicle Operators, delivering classroom instruction, field certification, and mixed‑reality training scenarios.
• Administer JJ Keller compliance modules, Mixed Reality Training (MRT) scenarios, and driving assessments, and track progress using the Daily Training Tracker and Jira.
• Provide ride‑along coaching, give immediate documented feedback, and ensure trainees meet proficiency thresholds.
• Translate engineering and safety updates into clear on‑road instruction and deliver refresher training after software updates or truck upfits.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience as a Vehicle Operator or comparable professional driving role, with a valid CDL and clean record operating Class 8 vehicles.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver safety‑critical training and conduct performance assessments in an on‑road environment.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with meticulous record‑keeping in LMS or tracking systems.
• Passion for autonomous vehicle technology and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Required skills

• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and training record administration.
• Familiarity with JJ Keller compliance modules and Mixed Reality Training (MRT) scenarios.
• Proficiency in using Jira for tracking trainee progress.
