Tech Lead Manager

About the role

As a Tech Lead Manager at Check, you will turn complex, high‑impact payroll problems into reliable solutions that serve millions of users. You will lead a small, high‑ownership engineering team, stay hands‑on with code, and partner closely with product and operations to drive growth.

Key responsibilities

• Scale systems that power payroll calculations, tax payments, and filings as volume and complexity increase.
• Design services that move and reconcile money across parties, ensuring clear and traceable results for partners.
• Support new businesses migrating large employer bases onto Check’s infrastructure.
• Leverage AI to automate complex operational workflows such as tax notice triage and employer setup.
• Collaborate with product and operations to define roadmaps and workflow improvements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building complex software and delivering production systems end‑to‑end.
• 1–2 years of experience leading or managing an engineering team.
• Desire to remain hands‑on and build together with the team.
• Proven track record of driving business outcomes and mentoring individual contributors.
• Passion for improving engineering workflows and experimenting with AI.
