Summer Associate (2L) – Law Internship

About the role

Miller Johnson is seeking second‑year law students to join its 2027 Summer Associate Program. Associates will work in Grand Rapids, Detroit, or Chicago on a variety of corporate, litigation, and intellectual‑property matters, gaining hands‑on experience and mentorship throughout the summer.

Key responsibilities

• Draft motions, legal memoranda, contracts, and other documents under attorney supervision.
• Conduct legal research to support transactional and litigation matters.
• Participate in client meetings, strategy sessions, and internal team discussions.
• Collaborate with attorneys and fellow Summer Associates on substantive projects.
• Observe court proceedings, depositions, negotiations, and client interactions when possible.
• Engage in mentorship, networking, and professional‑development activities.

Required profile

• Current second‑year law student (2L) expected to graduate in 2028.
• Strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
• Professionalism, initiative, and a collaborative mindset.
• Interest in transactional and/or litigation‑focused legal practice.
