Staff Physician (O-5) – Non‑Supervisory Federal Position

About the role

The Staff Physician (O-5 Billet) provides mission‑focused primary and urgent care to individuals in federal custody within a collaborative, multidisciplinary federal health system. The role serves a diverse international patient population in ambulatory and infirmary settings, including adults, children, and family units.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive medical care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management.
• Collect detailed medical and social histories and perform follow‑up assessments for acute and chronic health needs.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, refer cases to specialist consultants, and coordinate hospital admissions when necessary.
• Provide emergency medical, surgical, and mental‑health services as required.
• Review and co‑sign medical documentation, supervise advanced practice providers (APPs), and serve as a collaborating physician.
• Utilize communication assistance resources for patients with limited English proficiency or communication disabilities.

Required profile

• U.S. Public Health Service officer or Call to Active Duty (CAD) candidate.
• Medical licensure and appropriate clinical privileges for the assigned scope of practice.
• Experience providing primary and urgent care in a correctional or federal healthcare environment.
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and follow established medical standards of care.
