Sr. Prototype Machinist

About the role

Enovis is seeking a senior prototype machinist to join its Surgical R&D Prototype team in Austin, Texas. The role involves turning engineering drawings into surgical instruments and implants, supporting design for manufacturability, and collaborating with product development engineers, marketing managers, and manufacturing engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Manufacturing Engineering, NPD Engineering, Specials Engineering) to move projects from design through completion.
• Create CNC programs using MasterCam for complex prototype and production parts.
• Operate CNC mills, lathes, and Wire EDM machines to produce high‑precision components.
• Inspect parts with precision measuring equipment and make adjustments to maintain accuracy.
• Interpret complex engineering drawings, plan set‑ups, and establish machining procedures.
• Maintain accurate record‑keeping, machine maintenance, and a clean, safe work area.
• Develop and recommend new machining methods to improve processes.
• Provide training and guidance to less experienced staff as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 15+ years of experience operating CNC mills and lathes.
• Prior 3‑Axis CNC programming and Wire EDM experience (required).
• Experience with medical‑device or orthopedics manufacturing preferred.
• Familiarity with 3‑D CAD (SolidWorks) and CAM (MasterCam) software.
• Ability to travel less than 10% of the time.
