About the role
This position is a Senior Fish and Wildlife Biologist in the Endangered Species Division of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The incumbent will lead Section 7 consultations for development, transportation, water conveyance, recreation, restoration and flood‑control projects in the San Francisco Bay area, ensuring compliance with the Endangered Species Act.
Key responsibilities
- Act as technical advisor on habitat needs of rare, candidate, proposed and federally listed species for Section 7 consultations.
- Coordinate initiatives with Federal, state, local agencies and the public to implement Endangered Species Act, Federal Power Act and Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act programs.
- Inspect projects for compliance with policies, standards, agreements and plans, and recommend corrective actions.
- Review relevant rules, regulations, legislation and statutes affecting threatened and endangered fish, wildlife and plant resources.
- Prepare and guide the preparation of technical reports, correspondence and papers assessing impacts on listed species and their habitats.
- Facilitate implementation of conservation actions authorized through Biological Opinions, recovery plans and habitat management plans.
Required profile
- U.S. citizen or national; background investigation and E‑Verify required.
- Valid driver’s license throughout employment.
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, natural resource management, agriculture, chemistry or a related field (transcripts required).
- One year of specialized experience at the GS‑11 level performing Section 7 consultations, conservation strategy implementation, risk assessments, and technical leadership on endangered‑species projects.
- Ability to work on‑site in Sacramento or Fremont, California.
