Senior Financial Counseling Specialist – Transplant

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is seeking a Senior Financial Counseling Specialist to support patients undergoing solid organ transplantation. In this role you will evaluate insurance coverage, secure authorizations, and guide patients and families through the financial aspects of transplant care.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive financial screening of transplant candidates using tools created by the Transplant Financial Coordinators.
• Verify and document insurance benefits, including pharmacy coverage, and obtain pre‑authorizations from third‑party payers.
• Meet patients, families, and caregivers in outpatient or inpatient settings to explain transplant‑related financial requirements.
• Ensure all necessary authorizations and referrals are secured before services are rendered.
• Serve as a resource for financial questions before and after transplant, identifying alternative funding options when gaps arise.
• Collaborate with the transplant team to address financial barriers and support patient care.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or a related field with at least three years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle, or a high school diploma/GED with seven years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of solid organ transplant insurance contracts, benefits, and pharmacy coverage.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
