Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Clarion is building AI‑driven communication infrastructure for modern healthcare. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will own core backend services that power AI agents handling scheduling, billing, prescription refills and follow‑ups, directly impacting patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain core backend systems, data models and business logic for AI‑enabled healthcare workflows.
• Develop workflow orchestration infrastructure for multi‑step, asynchronous and agentic AI processes, including retries and graceful failure handling.
• Implement and manage high‑stakes integrations with electronic health records (EHRs) and legacy platforms via APIs and robotic process automation.
• Create internal abstractions and tooling that enable rapid deployment and customization of AI assistants for new customers.
• Ensure security, authentication, authorization and HIPAA‑compliant architecture across all services.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience designing, building and scaling backend systems in high‑reliability production environments.
• Strong ownership mindset; thrives in ambiguous situations and takes responsibility for system outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross‑functionally, surfacing risks early.
• Bonus: experience with security, authentication or regulated environments; familiarity with HIPAA is a plus.
