Physical Education Teacher – Middle/High School

About the role

The International Rescue Committee’s Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) seeks a dynamic Physical Education Teacher to lead daily PE classes for middle and high school students. You will design engaging sport activities, foster social‑emotional growth, and help build a supportive community for newly arrived refugee youth.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver culturally‑responsive PE lessons, including soccer and badminton.
• Participate in mandatory school programming, instructional planning sessions, trainings, and all program meetings.
• Submit lesson plans weekly in advance of instruction.
• Use multilingual instructional approaches for English Language Learners.
• Collaborate with Classroom Culture Lead Teachers to monitor and review student progress.
• Maintain classroom climate in line with Academy philosophy and protocols.
• Provide early‑ and after‑care supervision as needed and substitute for colleagues when required.
• Complete staff surveys and comply with all IRC policies and protocols.

Required profile

• Experience teaching, leading, or coaching group sports programs.
• Strong desire or experience coaching soccer and badminton.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in physical education or a related field.
• Experience working with English Language Learners or multilingual learners.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds.
