Science Educational Coach – Middle/High School (NYC)

About the role

Teaching Matters is seeking a Science Educational Coach to provide on‑site instructional coaching to middle and high school teachers and administrators in New York City. The role focuses on fostering culturally responsive science instruction aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the OpenSci curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Coach teachers and school leaders in designing and delivering culturally responsive science lessons and units.
• Develop customized coaching plans based on structured needs assessments.
• Facilitate cycles of coaching that build key teaching competencies and address mindset shifts.
• Lead teacher teams in reflective practice, data analysis, and identification of inequitable practices.
• Guide leaders in adjusting school systems, structures, and communication to promote collaboration and student success.
• Build trusting relationships with educators, meeting them where they are and empowering professional growth.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience as a science coach.
• Minimum 4 years teaching high school physics and chemistry.
• Strong content knowledge with a focus on culturally responsive curriculum.
• Proven track record of achieving measurable student outcomes.
• Experience facilitating teacher teams and leading professional workshops.
