Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate / Patent Agent (5G/6G)

About the role

Womble Bond Dickinson’s Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group is seeking an Associate or Patent Agent to join its Electrical Engineering & Software team. The position can be based in any of the firm’s U.S. offices and focuses on drafting, prosecuting, and litigating patents in emerging wireless technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in the United States.
• Support patent litigation matters as needed.
• Collaborate with engineers on design and chip‑related inventions.
• Work on wireless communication technologies, including 5G, 6G, and 3GPP standards (desired).

Required profile

• Admission to the USPTO with 2–6 years of relevant legal experience.
• For Associate candidates, a law license or ability to obtain one in the relevant state.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Strong academic credentials and analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Patent drafting and prosecution experience.
• Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• USPTO registration.
• Knowledge of wireless communication standards such as 5G, 6G, and 3GPP (preferred).
• Design engineering experience with chip companies (a plus).
