Mechanical Engineer – Nuclear Facility Design Authority

About the role

Central Plateau Cleanup Company (CPCCo) in Richland, Washington is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to serve as a Design Authority/System Engineer for the Central Waste Complex/Waste Receiving and Processing/Low Level Burial Grounds (CWC/WRAP/LLBG) program. The role supports the mission of safely remediating the Hanford Site and protecting the Columbia River.

Key responsibilities

• Report directly to the CWC/WRAP/LLBG/CHWP engineering manager.
• Act as Design Authority/System Engineer for assigned systems, ensuring designs and modifications align with the Facility Nuclear Safety Basis.
• Lead or assist project teams to achieve Waste Processing & Operations goals.
• Prepare and review documentation in compliance with contractual requirements, company procedures, and applicable codes.
• Communicate regularly with project management, central engineering, DOE, Ecology, and other regulatory agencies.
• Promote a safety‑focused culture where employees can raise safety or ethical concerns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Engineer Grade 19: minimum 8 years of relevant experience; Engineer Grade 20: minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
• At least 1 year of nuclear‑related experience.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
• Experience in a multidisciplinary engineering environment with established engineering processes.
• Prior experience with DOE or DOD projects is desirable.
