Manager, Sponsored Programs

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Surgery seeks a full‑time Manager, Sponsored Programs to oversee the administrative and financial operations of its Sponsored Programs division. The role focuses on increasing funded research proposals, optimizing existing grant dollars, and ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal policies.

Key responsibilities

• Review budget variances, develop corrective action plans, and prepare monthly variance reports for program management.
• Maintain portfolios for private and government grants, develop allocation systems, and manage monthly overhead tables.
• Oversee post‑award administration, including award setup, budget distributions, expense monitoring, labor transfers, and re‑budgeting.
• Approve disbursement requests, payroll adjustments, expense transactions, and travel reimbursements for accuracy and compliance.
• Establish and assess internal controls, train staff on policies, and ensure high‑quality service to the research community.
• Collaborate with senior research administration to resolve principal investigator issues related to grant accounting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum five years of experience in grant or sponsored program administration.
• Strong knowledge of business and management principles.
• Proven ability to direct, manage, and evaluate department operations.
• Experience leading, motivating, and training staff.
