Lead Software Engineer – Microservices & Authentication

About the role

Mastercard’s Secure Access team is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to own the architecture and design of micro‑services that handle API and web authentication authorizations. You will drive end‑to‑end delivery of secure, high‑performance solutions while mentoring engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end software design and architecture, translating business requirements into scalable, reliable solutions.
• Define high‑ and low‑level design artifacts such as APIs, data models, system interactions, and component boundaries.
• Establish and enforce architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices across multiple teams.
• Own delivery of robust backend services and frontend applications (React), ensuring security and performance.
• Build and enhance internal developer platforms using Backstage or similar plugin‑based frameworks.
• Define and embed comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, functional/E2E) within CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead performance engineering initiatives, including benchmarking, load testing, capacity planning, and latency optimization.

Required profile

• Deep technical expertise in micro‑services, API design, and authentication mechanisms.
• Proven ability to take end‑to‑end ownership of complex engineering initiatives.
• Experience delivering secure, high‑performance software on both backend and frontend (React) stacks.
• Familiarity with internal developer platforms such as Backstage.
• Strong background in testing, CI/CD, and performance engineering.
