Juvenile Correctional Officer – Washington, GA

About the role

The Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Juvenile Correctional Officer to help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth in its care. You will model and reinforce pro‑social behaviors while maintaining security and order within the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of detained youth in accordance with agency policies and SOPs.
• Supervise, guide, and instruct subordinate staff and act as shift supervisor for a unit or program.
• Conduct active supervision, intervene to control inappropriate behavior, and ensure a safe environment.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Oversee contraband searches, inspections, inventories, and control of keys, tools, and equipment.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with at least one year of Juvenile Correctional Officer experience (or two years of military service at E‑5 or higher).
• Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to meet agency physical agility standards and pass required assessments.
