Head of Engineering

About the role

As Head of Engineering at Sandbar, you will lead the software and machine‑learning teams to build a new interface that makes computing feel as simple as thinking. You will guide mobile, infrastructure, backend, and AI/ML engineers while collaborating closely with product, hardware, and firmware teams to ship the first product, Stream, and shape future offerings.

Key responsibilities

• Lead software and ML engineering across mobile, backend, infrastructure, and AI/ML.
• Drive product delivery, balancing shipping speed, quality, and velocity.
• Define engineering requirements, set goals, and facilitate sprints.
• Provide architectural guidance, conduct code reviews, and mentor engineers.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and product teams to deliver cohesive full‑stack products.
• Shape technical and product direction by identifying investment priorities and next‑generation builds.

Required profile

• 8+ years in software engineering or machine learning, with at least 3 years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Proven experience shipping consumer‑facing software or ML products.
• Broad technical breadth across mobile, backend, and ML, with ability to dive deep and guide architecture.
• Track record of building high‑performing teams in fast‑moving, ambiguous environments.
• Passion for human‑computer interaction.
