General Manager – K-12 Food Service

About the role

Lead a school district’s food service program as General Manager, overseeing multiple sites, driving student participation, and ensuring high‑quality, nutritious meals. You will combine strategic leadership with hands‑on service execution to make a daily impact on student health and academic success.

Key responsibilities

• Manage salaried managers and hourly staff across several school locations.
• Direct all client communication and account management activities.
• Train and develop Assistant Managers to support expansion and new contracts.
• Implement innovative initiatives to boost student participation and support academic outcomes.
• Build and maintain relationships with district administrators and school boards.
• Oversee budgeting, labor, food, and operational cost controls.
• Ensure timely reporting of inventory, production, payroll, and other required metrics.
• Maintain food safety, quality, and sanitation standards.
• Drive performance in sales, service, facility appearance, and cleanliness through staff development.
• Support daily service operations as needed and lead marketing activities for program growth.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED, or relevant vocational training (Bachelor’s preferred).
• Minimum 5 years food‑service experience, including 2–3 years as a Food Service Director (K‑12 preferred).
• Ability to pass background check, fingerprinting, and MVR audit; valid driver’s license required.
• Deep knowledge of food‑service trends, food safety, cost controls, and K‑12 nutrition standards.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Experience using Adobe Acrobat.
• Familiarity with POS systems.
• Experience with online reporting tools.
