Full-Time Police Officer – Law Enforcement

About the role

The Police Officer role is a full‑time position responsible for protecting life and property, enforcing criminal, traffic, and city laws, and maintaining public peace in South Padre Island.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas on rotating shifts.
• Respond to emergency calls, investigate accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, and other incidents requiring police presence.
• Conduct investigations, interview victims, witnesses and suspects, gather evidence, and prepare cases for court testimony.
• Prepare detailed reports such as daily logs, incident reports, arrest reports, accident diagrams, and evidence logs.
• Provide community‑oriented services including assistance with locked vehicles, crime prevention education, DARE programs, traffic safety, and special patrol requests.
• Maintain communication availability via radio or telephone for major emergencies.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently on assigned shifts and make sound judgments in emergency situations.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and ordinances.
• Excellent observational and investigative skills.
• Physical fitness to perform patrols, first aid, and arrest duties.

Required skills

• First‑aid certification.
• Proficiency with radio and telephone communication equipment.
• Ability to document incidents accurately and prepare legal reports.
