Fleet Technician I – Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

About the role

The Fleet Technician I provides maintenance, diagnosis, and repair services for a variety of vehicles and off‑road equipment used by the department. The role requires safe, efficient, and quality‑focused work while delivering excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Perform repair work on vehicles, including breakdowns, malfunctions, and emergency roadside assistance.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and repair engines, transmissions, clutches, suspension, steering, fuel, ignition, electrical, brake, and HVAC systems to manufacturer specifications.
• Complete DOT inspections and preventive maintenance such as fluid changes, lubrications, safety checks, and brake repairs.
• Document all work orders with mileage, parts, cause, and correction details; manage warranty and core parts.
• Perform welding (MIG and stick), plasma cutting, and fabricate parts as needed for repairs.
• Operate and inspect off‑road equipment, including backhoes and trenchers, and conduct required safety inspections.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 4 years of experience as a vehicle or heavy‑duty truck technician.
• Valid motor vehicle driver’s license; CDL must be obtained within six months of hire.
• Ability to pass DOT substance‑abuse testing, background check, and physical strength/agility testing.
