Director of Research

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Director of Research to lead its Airbel Impact Lab, the organization’s research and innovation hub. This senior position will shape the research agenda across health, climate, economic recovery, and protection, driving evidence‑based solutions that improve humanitarian impact worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Define and oversee strategic research agendas across multiple outcome areas.
• Lead and mentor high‑performing research teams to deliver rigorous studies and impact evaluations.
• Collaborate with IRC technical units to translate evidence into program improvements and scaling strategies.
• Manage workforce planning, identify staffing needs, and ensure capacity building within the research function.
• Disseminate findings to influence the broader humanitarian sector and promote adoption of best practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale research programs in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong track record of publishing peer‑reviewed research and influencing policy.
• Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
