Criminal Investigator I – Southwest Georgia

About the role

Under supervision, the Criminal Investigator (Arson) conducts investigations of alleged violations of federal, state, or local laws. The role involves gathering and analyzing evidence, collaborating with other authorities, and preparing detailed reports for prosecution or further action.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate alleged or suspected violations of laws, rules, and regulations.
• Collaborate with other authorities on surveillance, transcription, and research.
• Conduct background investigations and internal investigations of law‑enforcement agencies.
• Examine records to locate links in the chain of evidence.
• Obtain and verify evidence by interviewing suspects and witnesses.
• Prepare reports detailing investigation findings.
• Identify case issues and required evidence.
• Utilize software programs to store, collate, and review financial information and evidence.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution AND completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program certification, OR two years of law‑enforcement experience with a P.O.S.T. certification.
• Valid Class C driver’s license (if required for the position).
• Ability to pass routine criminal and driver’s‑history background checks.
