Controller – Family Office & Private Investment

About the role

We are seeking an accomplished Controller to join a family office and private investment environment in Carmel, Indiana. The role blends technical accounting expertise with experience in private wealth or private equity, supporting both financial oversight and operational decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead accounting operations, ensuring accurate records, timely close cycles, and reliable financial reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and month‑end/year‑end procedures.
• Partner with leadership on budgeting, cash‑flow planning, and broader business management matters.
• Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting practices.
• Support investment‑related and wealth‑management financial activities with analysis and reporting insight.
• Manage accounting systems and drive process improvements, particularly using Xero.
• Coordinate with external advisors, auditors, and tax professionals to ensure compliance.

Required profile

• CPA designation (required).
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and its application in complex environments.
• Background in private wealth management, private equity, family office, or a closely related setting.
• Demonstrated experience leading general accounting and financial reporting functions.
• MBA preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero or comparable accounting systems.
• Expertise in U.S. GAAP.
• CPA qualification.
