Communications & Social Media Intern – UN DESA

About the role

The Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD) at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs is looking for a motivated intern to support its communications and digital outreach activities. The role will be based at UN Headquarters in New York and may be performed in a hybrid format.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and disseminate social media content across platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube and others.
• Draft posts, captions, key messages and short promotional texts covering DISD programmes, events and policy initiatives.
• Support communication efforts related to the follow‑up of the Second World Summit for Social Development and the Doha Political Declaration.
• Assist in promoting intergovernmental processes including CSocD65, COSP20 and the 2027 UNPFII session.
• Collaborate with the Division’s communications team and the supervising Public Information Social Officer.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recent graduate of a relevant academic programme (e.g., communications, international relations, development studies).
• Strong interest in social development, inclusion and UN processes.
• Excellent written English skills and ability to craft concise digital messages.
