Public Information Intern

About the role

The United Nations Department of Global Communications is offering a four‑to‑six‑month unpaid internship in New York. The Public Information Intern will support the Human Rights and Outreach Programmes Section, focusing on the Outreach Programme on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Slavery. The role is full‑time (35 hours/week) and starts in October 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on human‑rights, equality, anti‑discrimination and UN outreach themes.
• Draft and edit website copy, news stories, social‑media posts and multimedia materials for educational and communication products.
• Identify and synthesize information on lectures, exhibitions, speakers and outreach activities relevant to the project.
• Assist in producing audiovisual deliverables, including video editing, captioning and basic motion‑graphics using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
• Prepare presentation decks and internal briefing materials.
• Participate in project planning, coordination and provide content recommendations for events and outreach initiatives.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or a related field.
• Strong written communication skills and experience with social‑media and multimedia production.
• Proficiency with MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.
• Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• No prior professional experience required; a relevant field of study is mandatory.
