Digital Communications Officer – UN Security

About the role

The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) seeks a Communications Officer specialized in digital communications to enhance the visibility of its Field Operations. Based in New York, you will develop and implement digital strategies that showcase UNDSS work and drive global engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Draft compelling narratives and messaging on UN work for multiple digital channels.
• Create, edit, and publish content for websites and social media, including live and multimedia formats.
• Develop and execute digital communication strategies, measuring impact and adjusting tactics.
• Monitor, analyse, and report on communication performance using data visualisation.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with UN data privacy and security standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications or related field (or equivalent combination of degree and experience).
• Minimum five years of experience in communications, journalism or public information.
• At least three years of professional video‑editing experience.
• At least three years of experience with visual design and presentation software.

Required skills

• Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve for video production.
• Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for graphics and infographics.
• Data visualisation tools for creating charts, graphs and reports.
• Website content management and social media platform optimisation.
