Chief of Section, Investigations (Temporary)

About the role

The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) is seeking a temporary Chief of Section, Investigations to lead the Operational Standards and Support Section within the Investigations Division. Reporting to the Director of ID/OIOS, the incumbent will guide investigative work that supports the United Nations' oversight responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize and allocate resources to meet work‑plan goals efficiently.
• Provide guidance and direction to team members, fostering a professional, inclusive and results‑oriented culture.
• Harmonize and continuously improve intake, referral and investigative methodologies, ensuring analytical rigor and alignment with professional standards.
• Ensure adherence to due‑process, confidentiality, evidence‑handling protocols and timeliness targets, while identifying systemic risks.
• Serve as focal point for complex procedural and operational guidance, maintaining high‑quality outputs.
• Lead preparation and coordination of official communications, including Notes Verbales.
• Represent the Division in inter‑departmental and inter‑agency forums, advising on misconduct trends and policy coherence.
• Oversee the production of analytical reports, dashboards and briefing materials for senior management and oversight bodies.
• Manage the Division’s formal reporting function for investigation‑related documentation and annual reports.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in investigations or internal oversight.
• Strong understanding of UN or international organizational procedures.
• Ability to manage complex projects and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
