Assistant Professor of English – Applied Linguistics

About the role

The Department of English invites applications for a nine‑month, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position with a concentration in Applied Linguistics, beginning in Fall 2027. The appointment includes a 3/3 teaching load, research expectations, and service duties, with potential summer and online teaching opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied linguistics, including TESOL certificates, English majors, and secondary certification programs.
• Coordinate and deliver the curriculum for two undergraduate TESOL certificates and related minor programs.
• Develop and maintain an active research agenda in areas such as TESOL methods, technology‑assisted language learning, corpus linguistics, or sociolinguistics.
• Participate in departmental service, curriculum development, and university community outreach.

Required profile

• PhD in Applied Linguistics or a related field (ABD considered) with the degree conferred by the start date.
• Demonstrated successful research in at least two of the following: TESOL methods, technology‑assisted language learning, corpus linguistics, or sociolinguistics.
• Commitment to teaching a broad range of applied linguistics courses at the undergraduate level.
• Experience teaching language learners and working with first‑generation or historically underserved students.
