Writer, Kids Content
PragerU · Los Angeles
Job description
About the role
PragerU is looking for a versatile, seasoned children's writer in Los Angeles, California, who can move easily between a toddler's picture book and a high schooler's history lesson. Key responsibilities

- Write children's books, including picture books, early readers and middle-grade titles.
- Adapt voice, vocabulary, pacing and humor to the developmental stage of each audience, from pre-K through 12th grade.
- Turn complex topics in history, civics, economics, character and American values into accurate, engaging, age-appropriate stories and lessons.
- Work closely with producers, animators, editors, educators and the creative team from concept through final delivery, taking notes well and revising efficiently.
- Pitch original ideas for characters, series, books and educational products.
- Research thoroughly and ensure factual accuracy across all content.
- Meet production deadlines while managing multiple projects in different formats at once.
Required profile
- At least 5 years of professional writing experience for children, with published or produced work across a range of ages.
- A portfolio showing range across formats, ideally including scripts, books and educational materials.
- Meaningful, ongoing time spent with children, such as a parent, teacher, coach, counselor, tutor, camp leader or youth ministry leader.
- A strong understanding of child development and how attention, comprehension and humor change with age.
- Ability to write with real comedic and storytelling chops, and to write structured educational content with clear learning objectives.
- Quick learner who can adopt a house style and creative framework quickly.
- Alignment with PragerU's mission and values, and familiarity with homeschool families.
- Degree, credential or classroom experience in education, early childhood development or a related field; experience writing to state or national academic standards.
Preferred experience
- Animation writing, children's television or kids' digital media.
- Experience writing for a series bible or shared-universe characters.
What we offer
- Salary target of $85,000 - $100,000+, depending on experience and expertise.
- An annual bonus based on personal and company performance.
- A robust benefits package.
To apply, candidates submit a resume and a cover letter that explains how their values align with the company's and why they want to work there.
