Weld Technician

About the role

Adient is hiring a Weld Technician for its Battle Creek Seating Component location. The role sits within the Engineering Department and reports directly to the Engineering Manager. It covers process monitoring, weld program changes, fixture adjustments and support of non-automated repair processes.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the welding process and record data
• Adjust fixtures to meet product dimensional targets
• Change weld programs as needed to maintain acceptable weld performance
• React to unscheduled equipment issues such as breakdowns, performing diagnostics and repairs
• Respond to C.C.T. lab results and quality department audit findings on process capability deviations
• Support non-automated (off-line) weld repair processes
• Carry out project and development work as assigned
• Complete required training and follow all health, safety and environmental standards

Required profile

• Experience in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment is a plus
• BSWE/WET preferred; ASWE/WET preferred, but definitive experience with automated welding processes is also considered
• Ability to work Monday through Friday, 1:45 pm to 9:45 pm

Required skills

• Equipment troubleshooting, weld fixture adjustment and weld programming
• Use of simple hand tools and basic computer skills
• Basic understanding of 2D dimensional product prints; basic GD&T preferred
• Visual ability to distinguish good from bad welds
