Ward Clerk

About the role

The Ward Clerk supports the nursing station by handling receptionist duties, maintaining patient records, and ensuring a clean, safe environment. This full‑time position works three days a week with alternating weekends and both day and night shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the communication hub for the unit, coordinating written and verbal messages.
• Maintain and update patient chart files and the Patient Report Form spreadsheet based on verified provider orders.
• Register emergency‑room patients as needed, including outside regular business hours.
• Perform clerical tasks related to patient admission, discharge, and transfer.
• Assist in keeping the nursing unit clean, safe, and attractive.

Required profile

• No formal education required; ability to read directions and understand acute‑care responsibilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills, pleasant and courteous demeanor toward patients, visitors, and staff.
• Ability to work cooperatively with the department leader and team members.
• Willingness to attend training, in‑service sessions, and maintain BLS certification.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of medical terminology (asset).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain it.
