WAE Substitute – Early Childhood Education Lab Preschool

About the role

The WAE Substitute position supports the Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool by providing care, supervision, and instructional support to children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Working under the guidance of the Lead Teacher or Associate Director, the substitute helps implement the curriculum and maintains a safe, nurturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and engage with children during daily routines and activities.
• Implement the program curriculum as directed by the Lead Teacher or Associate Director.
• Conduct developmentally appropriate activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
• Maintain a clean, orderly classroom and ensure health‑and‑safety standards.
• Communicate regularly with parents about child development and classroom events.
• Uphold confidentiality of children, families, and staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including light housekeeping and meal preparation.

Required profile

• High School Diploma.
• CDA/ECE Ancillary Certificate or relevant experience working with young children.
• Ability to pass a Department of Education criminal background check and fingerprinting.
• Physical ability to lift 20‑40 lb, sit, kneel, stand for extended periods, and handle messes during activities.
• Willingness to sing and participate actively with children.
