Volunteer ESL Instructor (Remote)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to lead online English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for refugees and local immigrant communities. This remote position allows you to make a meaningful impact from the comfort of your home while supporting the IRC-LA Adult Education Program.

Key responsibilities

• Lead weekly ESL classes via Zoom according to the provided schedule.
• Deliver lessons using the IRC curriculum, PowerPoint slides, flashcards, and other teaching materials.
• Coordinate with the IRC-LA Adult Education Program Supervisor and staff.
• Respond to student questions and adapt instruction to varying skill levels.
• Maintain attendance and communication through the Remind platform.

Required profile

• Passion for education and helping refugee communities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Flexibility to teach on designated weekdays and times.
• Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer policies and learn about the organization’s mission.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Zoom for online teaching.
• Experience using the Remind communication platform.
