Vitamin & Body Care Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Vitamin & Body Care Clerk in Newport. The clerk keeps the natural living shelves stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers as needed and maintains a friendly, energetic demeanor. All positions require doing daily job duties in addition to sales and customer service, with a positive attitude and willingness to be a team player.

Key responsibilities

• Keep aisles, storage and work areas clean and safe, including cleaning shelves and products, keeping floors free of spills and sweeping.
• Stock the department, present products, face and fill items according to department schematics, and keep tags and prices accurate.
• Check product rotation, discard expired or spoiled items and keep a code date log so products can be cleared or traded before expiry.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and product selection, and sell and cross-sell products.
• Receive, inspect and log incoming products for shipment accuracy, temperature and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional material.
• Help with pre-inventory preparation, back stock and matching tags to products.
• Maintain product knowledge and walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in vitamin and body care processes, and previous experience in natural foods (a plus).
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.

Required skills

• Advanced attention to detail, prioritization and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask, organize and adapt to high-volume retail in a cross-functional team.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures; familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail.
• Physical demands include standing and walking continuously for up to 8 hours, lifting occasionally up to 50 lbs, and reaching overhead frequently.
