Part-Time Cashier

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Part-Time Cashier in Newport to handle customer sales transactions at the front registers. The cashier must keep proper control of cash, ensure customer satisfaction and safeguard company assets, while assisting customers and keeping a friendly, energetic manner. The position requires following all Front End Department procedures and availability for nights and weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Walk the store before each shift to check promotions and sales, do the produce walk and weekly testing.
• Compute bills, itemized lists and tickets showing the amount due.
• Receive payment by cash, check, credit card, gift card or automatic debit and issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks and change.
• Operate the cash register: scan price-coded items, enter PLU or UPC manually, and show total, tax and rebates on the screen.
• Greet customers and respond promptly to their needs.
• Maintain clean, orderly checkout areas free of personal items.
• Issue coupons and rain checks, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in front-end processes, and previous experience in natural foods is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates, including nights and weekends.

Required skills

• Point of Sale (POS) system and basic math, weights and measures.
• Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills.
